+ DESERT OASIS

DUBAI

Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates known for luxury shopping, ultramodern architecture and a lively nightlife scene. Burj Khalifa, an 830m-tall tower, dominates the skyscraper-filled skyline. At its foot lies Dubai Fountain, with jets and lights choreographed to music. On man-made islands just offshore is Atlantis, the Palm, a resort with water and marine-animal parks.

+ OASIS EXPEDITIONS

Desert dining in Dubai

An unforgettable gourmet experience,Embark on an authentic desert safari. Desert safaris are hugely popular, and most tour operators include dune-bashing in their experience, followed by a barbecue dinner in a desert camp with traditional majlis-style seating, and belly dancing, henna tattoos and camel rides. Transfers from the city are in a vintage Land Rover, the setting is the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (a protected wildlife site), and the Bedouin camp is traditional yet luxurious. Learn to cook a local dish, and sample classic Arabic cuisine. Overnight safari experiences are available, too.

Stay the night at a desert resort

If an evening among the dunes isn’t enough, extend your experience with an overnight stay at one of the many luxe resorts in the heart of Dubai’s peaceful desert. The Arabian Dreams overnight safari with Arabian Adventures will take you to the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve area where only limited vehicles are permitted. There, you can enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner and a night of ‘glamping’ (upscale, glamourous camping) in the desert. A hot breakfast and drive to see the local wildlife at dawn is the perfect way to finish off your stay. Also in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve is Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa, considered one of the world’s most romantic resorts, where luxury concierge service Lime&Tonic offers a Desert Romance Dinner package.

Set in a private poolside space overlooking the desert, the ultra-exclusive offering comprises a three-course dinner, the services of a private butler and chef, and luxury transfers to and from the resort for AED 2500 for two people. The resort is also well worth staying at for the night, with each suite featuring its own pool and private deck area. Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa is a picturesque resort designed in the style of a traditional Arabian fort, and located not too far from Dubai’s metropolis. The on-site Al Hadheerah restaurant is an alfresco venue that celebrates fresh, delicious dishes from across the Arabian region, with live cooking stations and traditional wood-fired ovens at the ready. Majlis-style seating areas along with live entertainment, falconry displays, and an on-site heritage museum complete the authentic Arabian experience (it is unsurprising that this venue hosts a very popular iftar during Ramadan).

Dubai Aquarium And Underwater Zoo

The 10 million-litre tank at the Dubai Aquarium is one of the largest in the world, containing more than 33,000 aquatic animals and the largest collection of sand tiger sharks anywhere. Rising to the third floor of The Dubai Mall, the aquarium is home to 140 species of sea life and has several ways to experience underwater life, starting with a stroll through a 48-metre, walk-through tunnel. It’s a complete fish-eye view, with sand tiger sharks and stingrays swimming overhead. You can also take a glass-bottom boat tour, get wet in a snorkelling cage and even don an oxygen tank to go swimming with the sharks.

Destination Spas In Dubai

Sometimes a one-hour massage just isn't enough. If you're looking for 24-hour relaxation and pampering, then check out one of Dubai's many luxurious destination spas. Offering the latest in massage, wraps and Ayurvedic and aromatherapy treatments, these opulent facilities are part of the city's world-class resorts, and many offer in-room services as well. Most are family friendly, with swimming pools, five-star restaurants and first-class personal service. Here in Dubai, we value engineering and design, which means many of these spas are surrounded by private gardens and lagoons. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself feeling like you're on your own private island of calm.

Dubai From Above

The best ways to see Dubai from the sky. Want to see all Dubai has to offer – all at once? Whether by hot-air balloon, helicopter, plane, and more, take to the skies for a bird’s-eye view of the desert city.

Sightseeing by helicopter in Dubai

See Old Dubai on one of Seawings' history and heritage charters. Flying over the maze of souks and shisha cafes, and rows of dhows bobbing on Dubai Creek, passengers are given a handy field guide to Dubai’s most fascinating points of interest, circling the flight path less travelled over Port Rashid, to the bustling streets that surround Deira’s clock tower.

Desert drift in a hot-air balloon

Could there be any better way to start the day than floating over Dubai's expanse of golden sand dunes? An early morning tour with Balloon Adventures Emirates is the perfect option for both professional photographers and avid Instagrammers, with the sands reflecting the sunrise’s ever-changing colour spectrum of deep red, orange and yellow. Keep an eye out for the wild camels and – if you're lucky – a herd of elusive Arabian mountain gazelles.

Scale the Burj Khalifa

A trip to Dubai isn't complete without seeing the city from the 124th floor of the world's tallest building. The glass walls of the observation deck, At the Top – and its newly opened sister lounge, At the Top Burj Khalifa SKY on level 148 – give guests an unbeatable 360-degree view of the city and, on a clear day, the seemingly endless desert beyond. For one of the region’s most visited attractions, crowd control has been fine-tuned to an art form, with fascinating statistics and records fed to visitors as they ascend
in the high-speed lifts. Afterwards, head down to level 122 to At.mosphere, for - what else? - a delectable high tea at 421 metres above sea level.

Skydive over Palm Jumeirah

Fancy an adrenaline rush with equally thrilling views? Free-falling at 210 kilometres an hour from 14,000 feet above the world's largest manmade island is sure to get your blood pumping. Skydive Dubai welcomes beginners, with trained instructors walking newbies through their tandem jump, and even pointing out points of interest on the way down. Not ready to make the leap? The drop zone’s cafe is a far more relaxing option for those who prefer to simply watch.
